COVID-19
Briefing 31st March 2020

In the midst of these extraordinary times, AlphaPet continues to see urgent and emergency cases 24/7 every day.

Our receptions are manned from 9am until 5pm Monday to Friday (with genuine emergencies only at weekends please) at each of our surgeries to help deal with your pet’s problems. This allows us to keep our staffing levels to a minimum to protect them and give us flexibility to continue to provide a service in the event that some of our staff do become ill and have to self-isolate.

We have taken measures to protect our staff and also to comply with the Government’s current advice whilst, at the same time, protecting the welfare of our patients.

Unfortunately, this has thrown up many challenges and we are continuing to find ways to meet these challenges.

Whilst some medications have been deemed to be essential (and have been available for collection from the surgery) other medications, such as preventative flea and worm control, has been deemed to be non-essential and therefore the journeys required to the surgery and the additional face to face contact between clients and staff has also been deemed to be non-essential.

We are very pleased to be able to report that from tomorrow (1st April 2020), we will be able to post out to clients their preventative flea and worm control. We have developed a method which allows us to legally post these in post collection boxes rather than having to ask our staff to queue in Post Offices, as had previously been the case. This posed an unacceptable risk to our staff.

We ask that all clients be mindful of the high additional demand this creates for our limited staff currently. We ask that all requests for flea and worm control is made through the Repeat Prescriptions tab on our website. We ask that you only request a repeat prescription when you are truly getting low on medications. Requests will be limited to a maximum of 3 months supply at a time to conserve stocks and ensure that we can supply everyone who needs preventative medication.

We are also able to continue to conduct full telephone and, where appropriate, video consultations with a vet. Again, we are working with limited staffing, so such consultations are limited to genuinely urgent cases (genuine emergencies will, of course, be seen immediately). Telephone and video consultations are allocated to specific time slots by our reception teams and are charged at normal rates and you will be asked to pay in advance over the phone. This is to try to cover some of the still significant costs of continuing to provide this 24/7 service to our clients and their pets. Less serious or urgent conditions and enquiries may sometimes be dealt with by our reception or nursing teams on a FOC (free of charge) basis.

If, after a consultation, it is necessary for your pet to be seen, arrangements will be made for that. Similarly, if medications are required, vets have been given special dispensation to prescribe without physically seeing the patient in some cases and arrangements can be made for those essential medications to be collected from the surgery whilst observing social distancing and minimising face to face contact.

We would like to thank everyone, once again, for their understanding and continued support during the most challenging times any of us has ever faced. We will continue to work very hard to deliver the very best service we possibly can in impossibly difficult circumstances.

I am very grateful to you for your understanding, and more importantly, kindness, when I recently had my Pebbles put to sleep. As you...
Doreen McGoldrick

What we offer

We provide the best possible service and veterinary care for all popular smaller animals including dogs, cats, and rabbits whilst we also have the expertise to care for guinea pigs, birds, reptiles and wildlife all in a relaxed and friendly environment. We believe passionately that this can only come from a group of veterinary practices that are not driven by profits but purely by quality of care, value and clinical excellence. The numbers speak for themselves - over 24,000 pet owners have trusted AlphaPet with over 80,000 of their animals and we're here to help you too.

In an emergency, especially when your pet is seriously sick or injured, you want to visit your local practice and to see your normal vet as quickly as possible. So AlphaPet continues to offer our own 24 hour in-house emergency service at our Bognor Regis surgery in West Meads; so we are there when you most need us. Both our Chichester vets surgeries at Lavant and Birdham use this in-house emergency service.
