Update on Parasite Treatments for Dogs

There have been some changes to the products we are recommending for routine parasite treatment in dogs and we wanted to explain why:

Ticks are becoming more common and can transmit serious diseases which affect dogs, cats and people

Lungworm remains a risk in our area, but many standard wormers do not kill these worms

The range of available parasite treatments continues to advance

We want to make it as easy as possible to keep your dog fully protected

Our new combination: Nexgard Spectra and Droncit

1. Nexgard Spectra is a combination tablet which is given monthly and treats for fleas, ticks & mites on the skin, as well as lungworm, roundworm & other intestinal worms
2. Droncit given as a single dose every three months and covers for tapeworm

Benefits over other combinations:

Fewer tablets to administer
Nexgard Spectra is very palatable and most dogs will eat it as a treat
No spot-on residue or smells
No need for tick collars
Tablet treatments remain effective no matter how often your dog swims because they can’t wash off. This also prevents harm to local wildlife

Rest assured that our previously recommended products are still safe. We are purely adapting to changing needs.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask for more information and we will be happy to help.
